BTV Spring Festival Gala

As China's most significant traditional festival, designing the Spring Festival Gala for Beijing—a city where history and modernity converge—posed a core challenge: finding a visual symbol that could carry both traditional heritage and contemporary spirit. My answer was found in the unique "Dougong" (interlocking bracket) structure of the Forbidden City's ancient architecture.

About
Modern Recomposition of Ancient Eastern Architectural Elements
I deconstructed and recomposed this classic Eastern architectural element with a modernist approach, making it the core visual language of the entire stage. These modular "new Dougong" elements, with their intersecting and converging forms, not only built the physical structure of the stage but also symbolized family reunion, social support, and the Eastern wisdom of harmonious coexistence.
To bring this concept to life, we created a 360-degree, in-the-round stage, inviting the entire audience to a boundary-less celebration of togetherness. The integration of kinetic mechanics and AR technology seamlessly merged traditional motifs with futuristic technology, ultimately presenting an Eastern aesthetic space that carries the memory of Beijing while looking forward to the future of a new era.
